Hey RDUnited Guys and Girls
Hello again and a big welcome back to
the Uni students. It makes the place buzz. Darlene, Hayley, Sticky
and the crew at the RDU Orientation stall had a great time meeting
lots of new people and taking lots of new volunteer forms. We will be
in touch to all the new volleys very soon.
On to what’s been happening……For
more on these, go to www.rdu.org.nz…
Cheap as Chips Cheap as Chips 2007 is over! The rec
centre track is once again the home of sweating, heavy breathing
fitness lovers as opposed to the sweating, heavy breathing music
lovers that invaded for Cheap as Chips 07 on the 4th of March.
The RDU crew were proud, once again to
be a major supporter of an event that is great for local music, great
for local talent and great for the local community. We are already
looking forward to next year, Cheap as Chips 2007 has set the
benchmark for outdoor parties in Christchurch and we reckon 2008 is
going to be even bigger and better. Remember also that these parties
would be nothing without you guys coming along and supporting great
music and shaking your thang in the summer sun, so a big thanks to
all you who came along and we will see you next year!
More new shows?
Monday night welcomes ‘Dubbers
Anonymous’ hosted by the infamous Mr Steel. Tune in for your
Dub-step fix every Monday night at 11pm. Closely followed at 12pm is
the new rivalry/companion for Rinsed Radio on Thursday nights – ‘Go
Wild’ with Seb Wild. Seb is bringing the beats for those who begin
their weekend on a Monday.
Wednesday night is kicking off the new
Punk and New Wave show ‘The Suspect Device.’ James is your host –
tune in to his show and get educated every Wednesday night from 11pm.
Thursday night has seen a bit of a
change around with the boys from Rinsed taking over the 11pm slot
from their usual Monday night session. This is the definitive show
for old school breakbeat and hardcore.
There has also been a few changes to
the daytime playlist shows – welcome to the family to Tom, Ed
Music, Billy and Gareth who are bringing the love as the ‘boys of
brunch’ and also to Spanky who is currently your Friday Drive host.
The format of Drive has changed and now
the last hour of Drive has been handed over to the host to corrupt
with their filthy musical tastes. Make sure you call in and request
some good new music.
We love Kate Gorgeous!
Kate Gorgeous in
the Morning (7-10am weekdays) is very excited about what’s coming
up in the World Cinema Showcase 12-25 April @Rialto. One of the many
highlights promises to the Oz indie hit Suburban Mayhem staring Emily
Barclay from In My Father's Den.
We will also step
out with renown Australian filmmaker and artist George Gittos. His
piece, Rampage, comes back from the "war torn streets of Baghdad
to the worn torn streets of Miami" with sharp insights into the
American Music Biz. You can experience flashes of dark comedy with
Juliette Lewis in Aurora Borealis and a new one out by Hustle and
Flow writer/director Craig Brewer Black Snake Moan.
Kate is also
looking forward to checking out Pacific Underground, Twinset + Lisa
Tomlins as part of Christchurch's Jazz and Blue's Festival. Plus RDU
is out hunting and gathering some politicians to serve up on
breakfast, must dash more of our elected to be chewed.
And a
farewell….
Christchurch is officially in mourning.
Our usually fair Garden City has lost a little of its shine, the
bright bastion of learning, Canterbury University is a little duller,
the hallowed corridors of RDU are resoundingly quiet and the Dollar
Mix show has lost its resident DJ of the past four years, Sticky
Fingaz.
Sticky has moved to the windy city, in
fact it would be interesting to see which has more bluster Wellington
or Sticky himself.
Lest we forget.
And finally…Upcoming gigs and
giveaways….
