ROUNDUP 2016 Grand Final
Written by Admin on 13 June 2016
Over the weekend, we hosted the GRAND FINAL of RoundUp 2016 at darkroom, bringing to an end 6 epic weeks of Christchurch Music. This year has bought some of the highest quality of bands that we’ve seen compete in years, leaving us with an epic Grand Final featuring; Smokin’ Voodoo, Idris, Dead Rats, St Peter’s Thursday and Emily & Georgie.
The night kicked off with Female duo Emily & Georgie, accompanied by percussionist Chris Close. Emily & Georgie made it to the Grand Finals as a wildcard, but quickly proved they were just as worthy to be at the Final as anyone else. Their soulful melodies were a crowd favorite on the night.
The second band to perform were Idris, who bought an experimental edge to the competition. Running an array of Synthesisers’ and Ableton Live with a full live band, these guys are truly pushing boundaries.
Smokin’ Voodoo followed, electrifying the room with a stomping set of straight up Rock ‘n’ Roll. Voodoo were true performers, churning out riff after riff with an energetic set.
Previous Grand Finalists, Dead Rats bought the noise in raw Punk fashion. These guys are no strangers to RoundUp, proving they’re only going from strength to strength.
St Peter’s Thursday finished off the night, with aggressive Guitars and amazing vocal capabilities from front man, Anand. That dude has some pipes!
The end of the night came with the judge’s decision, and after some deliberation we’re proud to say that the RoundUp 2016 Grand Champion is;
SMOKIN’ VOODOO!
Huge congratulations to the runner up, Dead Rats, and to all our finalists; Idris, Emily & Georgie, and St Peter’s Thursday. Everyone played amazing sets.
A huge thanks to our sponsors this year, for making RoundUp 2016 happen.
