Saint Martins | RDU Live To Air
Saint Martins joined us in SALTBOX Studios for a live performance.
Time and place is a significant factor for Ōtautahi/Christchurch folk trio Saint Martins. A collective feeling; running along the shaky city’s south side, diving into Banks Peninsula’s crisp waters and ending up with weekend recording sessions in the isolated township of Purau in late 2020 amongst strong songwriters that share primarily in friendship, and secondly in unmasking one’s authentic self.
The project is spearheaded by Monique Aiken’s delicate songship and tempered by the collective production capabilities of Ryan Fisherman and Chris William, inhabiting the neighbourhood where they record and write together, shadowed by the Port Hills sublime quality. Brutally honest in their live performances, relaxed in their intimate delivery, demanding an attentive ear.
Surfing a pool of influence that ranges from electronic folk into alt-pop sensible guitar noise, St. Martins makes music for the honest, stitching a new colour into Ōtautahi’s folk-rock thread.
